Newcastle United's injury-ravaged season peaked when two first-team centre-backs were ruled out for nine months within the space of a month with the exact same injury.
Sven Botman tried to battle on this season with a knee issue which ultimately resulted in him needing surgery on a torn ACL, but as fate would have it, he wouldn't be alone.
Just a couple of weeks later, Jamaal Lascelles pulled up on the pitch in the game against West Ham which saw him and two other Newcastle players added to the injury list.
Scans would later reveal that Lascelles would also need surgery on his ACL putting Newcastle in quite the hole.
Dan Burn has recently been talking to The Shields Gazette about the unfortunate incidents and has suggested that there is a small amount of good that's come out of it for the injured duo.
“A nine-month injury is huge, especially going well into next season as well, I think, if anything, there is a little consolation in that they’ve both done it together so they can help each other through that rehab.
“They’ll both be a big miss. Jam is our captain and a leader for us and Sven has been immense ever since he’s been here.
“It’s up to the rest of the lads here to step up and keep us ticking over until we can get bodies back.”
Both of those injuries will have had a massive effect on Eddie Howe's summer transfer plans with a new centre-back now a huge priority whereas before, it wouldn't have been so high on the list.
Lloyd Kelly of Bournemouth seems to be the favourite right now given that he will be available on a free, and given that he can also cover left-back it makes him the ideal signing.
Realistically, though, Newcastle could probably do with bringing in two centre-backs now, just to be sure.
