Newcastle United have a few options in mind for a new signing to bolster their goalkeeping ranks with Loris Karius set to leave at the end of the month.

Had Newcastle qualified for Europe, then there's a belief that Newcastle would be pushing hard to sign a goalkeeper to compete with Nick Pope for the first-choice spot, but having missed out, it's now believed they may instead look for a younger 'keeper to bring in to learn from Pope and eventually replace the former Burnley man.

Despite reports that Newcastle have lodged a £35million bid for Valencia's Giorgi Mamardashvili, the talk of the Magpies making a swoop for James Trafford has never gone away.

Relegated with Burnley this season, Trafford is attracting a lot of interest from Premier League clubs as they believe he could be snatched for around £20million.

They are really starting to grind my gears now

Newcastle and Liverpool have been heavily linked with Trafford, and now TalkSPORT have thrown another Premier League side into the mix, and of course. OF COURSE, it's Chelsea.

Yesterday it came out that they were also looking at Giorgi Mamardashvili and Filip Jorgensen, two 'keepers high on Newcastle's list. They've already beaten us to Tosin Adarabioyo and it seems like literally every player we are linked with, Chelsea's name either features in the same report or surfaces a couple of days later.

All clubs can only name a 25-man squad, so exactly how many players to Chelsea need?

Fingers crossed Newcastle land Mamardashvili

We'd rather see Newcastle bring in Mamardashvili than Trafford, sure, but just seeing Chelsea being linked to another Newcastle target is just infuriating.

Plus, we're not convinced that Martin Dubravka will be here next season, so the Magpies could bring in two 'keepers this summer so Trafford could still be an option even if we do land Mamarda.

It would make sense to us, though, to just keep it as bringing in Mamardashvili or an equivalent even if Dubravka leaves. We'd still have Pope and Mark Gillespie with Aidan Harris available as a benchwarmer if needed.
