Newcastle United have been trying to manufacture a quick sale for one of their most promising youngsters in a bid to stave off sanctions by the Premier League.

Reports are suggesting that Newcastle are at risk of a potential points deduction for breaching the PSR three-year loss limit if they don't raise money, believed to be around £30million, before the end of the day on Sunday.

One way the Magpies have been trying to comply with this deadline is to sell 19-year-old Yankuba Minteh who only joined the club last summer and has yet to even train with the Magpies after agreeing a season-long loan to Feyenoord on the same day he signed for Newcastle.

That loan spell went really well for Minteh and rocketed him to stardom with many clubs now keen to take the Gambian international off Newcastle's hands for a tidy profit.

Yankuba Minteh has refused to enter talks with Lyon

Indeed it's believed that Minteh will now fetch Newcastle £40million this summer just 12 months after signing him for £6.5million.

However, after a mutually beneficial swap deal with Everton collapsed earlier this week, it now looks as though another £40million deal for Minteh has fallen apart.

The Sun claims that Newcastle and Lyon had agreed terms on a £40million deal only for Minteh to refuse to enter talks with the French club stating that he wants to stay in the Premier League.

We admire Minteh for standing his ground even if it could cost us Premier League points

Minteh is believed to have put his foot down over being forced out of the club and has said he wants to stay or at least resurrect the deal with Everton after he'd reportedly agreed terms with the Toffees.

We can't say we blame him. Last year he bagged his dream move being signed by a Premier League club and without even being given a shot, we're trying to force him out because we're at risk of breaching a rule that shouldn't even exist.

We highly doubt that Newcastle actually want to sell Minteh, but he's the only player we have who's generated enough interest right now that we could possibly move on for enough money to dig us out of the hole we're in when it comes to the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

Newcastle should just take the hit on the points deduction as should all the other clubs at risk and expose the PSR laws for the farce that they are when half the league starts on minus points. But given that the clubs in the Premier League can't agree on what day of the week it is most of the time, it's unlikely that they could ever present a united front.
