The on-again-off-again deal between Newcastle United and Everton which would see Yankuba Minteh and Dominic Calvert-Lewin switch clubs looks like it may hit another speed bump.

Earlier this week the two clubs were close to agreeing a quasi-swap deal which would see Minteh head to Everton and Calvert-Lewin join Newcastle for roughly the same fee in two separate cash-only deals as both clubs scramble to comply with the Premier League's PSR three-year loss limit.

Newcastle pulled away from the deal over Everton's valuation of Calvert-Lewin, but since then, Minteh has signalled his intent to stay in the Premier League by refusing to discuss terms with Ligue 1 side Lyon after the clubs agreed a £40million transfer.

That has led to talk of the quasi-swap deal being back on as time is running out ahead of Sunday's PSR deadline.

We have to remember we weren't keen on signing Brake Face but that turned out pretty well

Everton now want Jaden Philogene from Hull City

It looks now, however, that Everton may have other ideas in mind as they are reportedly eyeing up a £16m move for Hull City winger Jaden Philogene which would likely see their interest in Minteh come to an end.

The Daily Mail claims that Everton have joined Tottenham and Barcelona in their admiration for the 22-year-old who scored some spectacular goals for the Tigers last season.

Given the competition they're up against for the former Aston Villa youth, they may struggle to get this one over the line.

The Sunday night deadline is rapidly approaching

Everton are probably better off trying to resurrect the quasi-swap deal for Minteh as at least he is keen on the move to Merseyside and it will also help them (and us) to avoid sanctions by the Premier League for breaching PSR.

Not that we're overly keen on the idea of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but we also weren't keen on the idea of signing Anthony Gordon either, and look how that worked out, we worship the ground the guy scrapes his face on now.

With a little over two days to sort out this financial fiasco, things will likely move fast over the weekend.
