Newcastle United have finally made a sale in January as the move of Miguel Almiron back to Atlanta United has been confirmed.

The Magpies had been trying to offload Miguel Almiron since January last year when a move to Al-Shabab was rejected by the Paraguayan.

Then in the summer, a return to the MLS was mooted with Charlotte FC in talks over a move for the 30-year-old, but an agreement couldn't be reached between the two clubs regarding a fee.

Atlanta United asked Charlotte FC if they could try (MLS has weird transfer rules), a fee believed to be in the region of £8 million was agreed and the rest is history.

Miguel Almiron never really shone as bright as we all hoped he would but we love him anyway

Miggy joined Newcastle six years ago from Atlanta United in a deal worth £21 million, a club-record fee at the time.

The smiling winger took a while to get going in the Premier League and never really hit the heights expected of him bar a month in 2023 when he seemed unstoppable.

Ultimately, Almiron has returned to the USA with 30 goals and 12 assists to his name in 233 appearances in all competitions.

Miguel Almiron is a hero in Atlanta

Almiron was idolised in Atlanta before his move to Newcastle and will receive a hero's welcome when he steps out on the pitch in the red, black and gold for the first time.

Signing a four and a half year deal, Miggy may well see out the rest of his career at Atlanta.

Best of luck, and thanks for the Miggories.
