Newcastle United fans could be about to see Miguel Almiron return to the MLS if recent reports are to be believed.

Miguel Almiron has been clinging on to Newcastle for dear life since they tried to ship him off to Saudi Arabia in January, but his amazing grip could be about to be loosened.

One of Newcastle's priorities in the transfer window was to bring in a right winger to take the club to the next level, but with just a few days until the Premier League season returns, there's no sign of an incoming winger and Miggy remains on the books.

Likely to have been dropped down to bench duties after Jacob Murphy's impressive pre-season, Miggy would likely have been happy enough with that role after refusing to move to Saudi Arabia again this summer.

Fabrizio Romano says Miggy is wanted in America

Enter Fabrizio Romano who has just posted that Charlotte FC representatives have flown to the UK to discuss a potential MLS return for Miggy Almiron.

Almiron is adored in the US after his stint playing for Darren Eales FC aka Atlanta United. Whenever Newcastle have visited the States or even when Miggy represented Paraguay in the Copa America, he has received a fantastic welcome.

Romano claims that the deal could be a difficult one to get done, especially as the MLS transfer window closes in two days, but you have to imagine the 30-year-old would be keen to return to the country that made him a star.

We'll take what we can get

There's no suggestion of what the price may be, but at this point, do we even care? We're unlikely to recoup our £21 million but even if we get half that, it's a bonus.

Of course, this means that Newcastle would absolutely have to sign a winger if they lost Miggy with some fans and even journalists losing hope that that could happen.

Indeed, Eddie Howe's words after the Sela Cup did hint that Marc Guehi could be the last player through the door. We sincerely hope not.
