There has been a lot of talk about Miguel Almiron making a return to the MLS since the summer after Charlotte FC entered talks with Newcastle United over a move.

In the summer the two clubs couldn't agree on a fee and the deal collapsed. It was then reported that Charlotte FC remained interested and would try again in January, but now another MLS club has come to the table.

Because Americans can't do anything right, Atlanta United had to get permission from Charlotte FC to approach Newcastle over Almiron. Apparently, MLS sides can call dibs on players and they have exclusive negotiation rights.

Charlotte must feel that a deal can't be done so they've stepped aside and opened the door for Miguel Almiron to return to the club that brought him to Newcastle's attention in the first place.

Miguel Almiron looks to be heading back to Atlanta United for £11m

The story around Miggy's return to Atlanta appeared before kick-off in tonight's 3-0 win over Wolves, in which Miggy made a brief appearance.

It has since grown into something actually believable with The Athletic's David Ornstein now running with the story suggesting a deal of around £11 million could be in the offing.

That fee actually feels reasonable for Almrion after looking like Newcastle were holding out for £15m+ for the player they paid £21m for in 2018.

Newcastle will need to step up their hunt for a winger if Almiron goes

We have no doubt that Miggy would jump at the chance to return to Atlanta where he was absolutely worshipped as a player.

Hopefully, this time the deal gets done and Newcastle can get some money back in the coffers after failing to make any significant sales for years.

Of course, this would leave Newcastle with just Jacob Murphy as an out-and-out right winger, but Miggy is only better than nobody mathematically anyway. One is better than zero, but he brings nothing else to the table these days.
