Last January it looked like Miguel Almiron was heading for a Newcastle United exit with Saudi club Al-Shabab closing in on a deal for the winger before the Paraguayan rejected the move.

Six months later, a move back to the MLS looked probable with Charlotte FC keen to take Miggy back across the Atlantic, however, the clubs couldn't agree on a fee.

It's back to January again and Miguel Almiron is still here, although there's an increasing likelihood that the Magpies will find a new club for their former record signing.

After spending £21 million to bring Almiron to the Premier League, it seems that the Magpies are hell-bent on recouping as much of that fee as possible and as such are pricing him out of a move.

£12 million still seems high for Miguel Almiron in his current form

The Telegraph are now reporting that an asking price of £12 million has been set for Miggy with interest from Europe and Brazil as well as the MLS with Charlotte FC still keen.

Miggy played a part in Sunday's win over League Two side Bromley and even then the 30-year-old looked out of his depth at times.

It's crazy to think that Newcastle feel they can get £12 million for him this month, but if they pull it off we'll be very impressed.

Miggy has been pretty good at digging his heels in at Newcastle

Miggy has had spells where we've understood why we signed him, but a winger with just 12 assists in 221 appearances is clearly not a record-worthy signing and it's time we cut our losses.

The money from any sale of Almiron will go towards the summer budget, most likely, but if Newcastle aren't careful they're going to price him out of a move for the third successive window.

Miggy is also entering the final 18 months of his contract, so his value is only going down, so it's time to just cut our losses. Of course, part of the problem has been Miggy's reluctance to leave, and there's nothing that the club can really do about that so we just have to hope that whoever does come in for him holds some sort of appeal.
