Eddie Howe and Paul Mitchell have a decision to make over the future of Newcastle United's number 9 Callum Wilson with the striker out of contract in the summer.

Given Callum Wilson's age (33 at the end of the month) and his abysmal injury record, the sensible thing on paper would be to let the forward leave when he contract expires.

However, Eddie Howe has a lot of love and a lot of faith in Wilson, and in his first start of the season on Saturday, he scored a goal, showing that his instincts are still there.

We've said that for us, it will all depend on the rest of this season. If he can go from now until May with no more injuries and bags a few goals, we should give him another year as we need support in the squad, but if he suffers just one more injury, then we let him go.

Victor Boniface is being linked with Newcastle United again

Newcastle set to be offered chance to sign Victor Boniface

West Ham are reportedly keen on offering Wilson a Premier League lifeline, while The Chronicle are now saying that the Magpies could be offered a replacement in the summer.

Victor Boniface is expected to be offered to clubs this summer after his £49 million January move from Bayer Leverkusen to Al-Nassr fell through.

Boniface's agent is looking for a new club for the 24-year-old who has been on the Magpies' radar since before the 2021 takeover.

Jonathan David is still the priority it seems

The Chronicle's report says that Boniface could be seen as an alternative should Newcastle's attempts to land Jonathan David from Lille fail. Given that the Canadian will be a free agent in the summer, it's going to be tricky to be the club that stands out amongst the inevitable sea of suitors.

Boniface is still knocking in goals despite all of the speculation around his future. The Nigerian has seven goals and an assist in 12 appearances for Leverkusen.

That kind of strike rate is nothing to be sniffed, and depending on how much the Bundesliga side will demand, Boniface could be a good option in the summer.
