Today is one of the slowest Newcastle United news days ever, so the only reason this is even getting a mention is that I have a job to do.

Reports in Italy are once again linking Roma boss Jose Mourinho with the Newcastle hot-seat.

The 'Special One' has often been touted as a future Newcastle boss, especially since the PIF takeover, due to the fact that he learned his trade from Sir Bobby Robson and thus feels a connection to the club.

The Mourinho-Newcastle link has always only been media-driven

Beyond that, Jose Mourinho has never spoken of wanting the job, Newcastle have never offered him the job, but still, almost annually, a report will surface linking the former Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United boss with the St James' Park position.

A true great ... and Jose Mourinho

The latest report from Il Tempo (via Corrieregiallorosso) has said that Mourinho really wants to stay on at Roma but has Newcastle as a Plan B if that fails.

You just, because he can just walk straight into the job here regardless of how well Eddie Howe is doing, how respected Eddie Howe is in and around the club etc.

It's honestly laughable.

As good as Mourinho is, do we want him at Newcastle?

Is there a future where Mourinho manages Newcastle? Sure, it's a possibility, but there's no way Amanda Staveley bins off Eddie Howe just because Mourinho is available.

To be honest, the Portuguese's reputation in the game is nothing like it once was. Far from the entertainingly, and justifiably smug person he was at Chelsea, Mourinho is now almost bitter, and whiny. He still can bring success, sure, but we'd much rather endure the relentless optimism (sometimes at the cost of the truth) from Eddie Howe than be caught up in stupid stuff like what Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp now get attention for. And that's what Mourinho would bring.

Keep egos away from our club, please. And stop trying to make this happen.
