Newcastle United are keen on signing Brentford winger Bryan Mbuemo in January and may offer a longstanding squad player in the process.
Toon scouts have been eyeing up the 25-year-old who has been on fire for the Bees this season scoring eight in 11 Premier League games this season.
Previous reports have suggested that he will be available for £50million in January, a fee that the Magpies should be able to afford despite lingering PSR issues.
However, Newcastle are reportedly keen on doing a player + cash deal to bring the Cameroonian to Tyneside.
According to The Sun, Newcastle are willing to offer Callum Wilson as a potential bargain for Brentford who are in need of a new forward after the departure of former Mag Ivan Toney to Saudi Arabia.
Wilson is currently facing yet another battle for fitness after picking up a back injury in pre-season which he hasn't shaken off. There have been instances where it looked like he was ready to return before Eddie Howe revealed another setback.
Wilson wasn't part of the group that travelled to Saudi Arabia for warm weather camp but reports suggest he could be back for Monday's game against West Ham.
After a largely disappointing summer transfer window Newcastle would be keen on bringing in a player the quality of Mbuemo.
While Newcastle should be able to afford Mbuemo, they may be forced to sell if they wanted to bring more players in alongside him.
Reports suggest that Kieran Trippier, Miguel Almiron and Wilson are players who could depart in January as they struggle with fitness and a lack of first-team football.
With Newcastle eager to return to European football next season, Howe will surely believe that now is the time to offload any aging stars while he can still receive a decent fee and fund deals for more high profile players.
With nine goal contributions in the league this season Mbuemo could be the first player to come in at the expense of others.
Toon fans are set to get a glimpse of Mbuemo in the next month as the Mapgies take on the Bees twice in the space of two weeks in the Premier League (A) and Carabao Cup (H) respectively.
