This summer was one to forget for Newcastle United fans after one of the most frustrating transfer windows in recent memory.
Long-suffering fans have been used to quiet transfer windows with very little to get excited about, but this summer had a different feel to it.
This summer it seemed that Newcastle were actively trying to bring in new players but selling clubs kept throwing the blockers up.
Namely Crystal Palace who strung Newcastle along for most of the window with their childish negotiations over England centre-back Marc Guehi.
Palace evidently had no interest in selling Marc Guehi to Newcastle but kept them at the table until the 11th hour leaving Paul Mitchell no time to divert his attention elsewhere.
The whole story over who said what and why we focussed solely on Guehi for so long has been done to death, and most Newcastle fans have moved on.
However, The Shields Gazette seems to think that the club has not.
The Gazette claims that the decision not to sell Guehi when the bid reached £70 million after starting at £55 million has caused tension in the Crystal Palace boardroom.
Add to that the fact that Palace have had a dreadful start to the season and Marc Guehi has looked a shadow of his former self, Newcastle are reportedly now looking to capitalise and will approach Palace with a lower offer in January.
With just 18 months remaining on Guehi's contract in January, there may be more pressure on them to sell.
Liverpool are also interested in Guehi and could be thinking the same thing. The question is, after all that bad faith in the summer, do we even want to get involved? And after Guehi's start to the season, do we want him?
