Reports from Italy are suggesting that Newcastle United could be about to hand a second shot at the Premier League to player who previously failed to live up to expectations in 20-game Premier League loan move.

Newcastle could now be considering a move for 25-year-old Juventus and USA midfielder Weston McKennie according to TuttoJuve.

McKennie previously had a loan spell in the Premier League with Leeds United where he struggled to live up to the hype surrounding him.

The versatile midfielder had since admitted that he was not in the best shape when at Leeds and struggled to get up to proper match fitness during his stay.

Newcastle are reportedly looking for a CDM this summer

Since returning to Juventus he has been a regular feature in the Italian side's lineup making 38 appearances in the last campaign popping up with 10 assists.

His lack of goals hints at his more defensive-mindedness, and while rarely deployed there by Juventus, McKennie can play as a CDM as well as centre-midfield and right midfield.

Newcastle are looking for a number six this summer and McKennie could fit the bill if he feels that he could get up to speed in the Premier League, which he should have no problem with if he follows Eddie Howe's training plans.

Newcastle have been watching McKennie for years

Juventus are likely to only ask £21million for McKennie putting him well in the affordable category.

Newcastle were actually watching McKennie before the takeover way back in 2020 so the fact their name is popping up again hints that the Magpies have been keeping an eye on his development and are happy with what they're seeing.

However, given where the story has come from, we'll believe this one when we see it. We don't doubt he's on the list, but as for how high up it, that remains to be seen.
