Lloyd Kelly has been the subject of a lot of transfer speculation this month and with Monday's transfer deadline looming, things are expected to heat up around the defender.

Newcastle United plucked Lloyd Kelly out of the free transfer market in the summer after he let his Bournemouth contract run down.

Since his move, though, the 26-year-old has been restricted to just 13 appearances in all competitions, racking up fewer than 600 minutes of game time.

Despite that, though, Eddie Howe insists that Kelly has an important role to play at Newcastle and is reluctant to let him leave.

Marseille and Borussia Dortmund could be weighing up a loan move for Lloyd Kelly

Turkish side Fenerbahce got the ball rolling with a lowball offer for Kelly which was rejected by Newcastle, only for Juventus to come in with an improved bid that was also rejected. The Italian club then proposed a loan with an option to buy, but again, Newcastle wouldn't be moved and Juventus are expected to walk away from the table now.

However, L'Equipe believes that Ligue 1 side Marseille and Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund could be tempted with a move for the defender.

The French publication has only mentioned a loan move for Kelly, which we can't see Newcastle agreeing to unless it contained an obligation to buy in the summer.

Newcastle's valuation of Lloyd Kelly seems very unrealistic

Reports suggest that Newcastle value Kelly at over £25 million, which seems like a stretch to us, especially given that the offers this month have come in at less than half that figure, showing a huge disparity between expectations and reality.

The true figure that Newcastle may accept probably lies somewhere in the middle, perhaps £17 million or thereabouts.

For fans, the finances behind any kind of sale seem too good to refuse. We paid nothing to bring him in and to get £10 million plus for him six months later when we're crying about PSR every waking minute, how can we refuse? There's obviously more that goes into the thinking behind making a deal, but from a fan's perspective, we're just throwing money on the fire.
