Newcastle United stuck to their word in January and used the window to move players on rather than recruit for the first team.

It made for an uncomfortable month yet again for Newcastle fans who have now endured three poor transfer windows in a row, but the feeling is that the club is building up to something big in the summer.

Although, there has been plenty of talk already warning fans not to expect big moves, rather a series of smaller moves.

Only time will tell, of course, and we're sure that rumours will not take any of this into account, and we'll be linked with some hefty deals between now and then.

Newcastle eyeing summer move for Johan Bakayoko

One player that was heavily linked to Newcastle in the winter window is now being touted as a summer target by TuttoSport in Italy.

PSV's Johan Bakayoko remained in the Eredivisie despite all the speculation, meaning Newcastle can try again in the summer, with the reports from Italy claiming that the Magpies will launch a €40 million (£33 million) bid.

The Belgian winger has 10 goals and three assists in 31 outings for PSV this season, with two of those goals coming in the Champions League. One of which was an absolute beauty against Liverpool which saw him put Andrew Robertson and Jarell Quansah on their arses before firing home.

Bakayoko would be a fantastic signing for Newcastle

There was quite a bit of excitement amongst the Newcastle fanbase when Bakayoko was linked as the 21-year-old clearly has what it takes to be a future star.

Our issue with this one is that the story is coming out of Italy from a story regarding Juventus' pursuit of Bakayoko.

There could be some truth in it; we've been linked long enough that there must be something in it. It would be a good move, and at £33 million, it certainly isn't one to be sniffed. He's young and talented, and under Eddie Howe, the sky's the limit.
