A right-winger is an absolute priority for Newcastle United in 2025 with options already limited down the right flank, Miguel Almiron is expected to leave the club in January which will leave an even bigger gap in the squad.
While some may argue that whether Miggy is still on the books or not, we have no options on the right wing beyond Jacob Murphy.
Murphy has his critics, us among them for sure, but two goals and two assists in his last two games make it very difficult to argue our case right now.
However, it's understood that regardless of form, we need someone better than Jacob Murphy to rely on week in and week out down the right flank.
Whether Newcastle will be able to afford to remedy this situation in January remains to be seen, especially as two of the biggest names on Paul Mitchell's wish list, Antoine Semenyo and Bryan Mbeumo are expected to demand a fee of over £50 million, we may have to wait until summer.
However, there is an alternative out there who Newcastle are big admirers of, and he has been reported as being available for just £25 million - although we expect that figure will rise if a move is actually made.
We're talking about Johan Bakayoko from PSV. Newcastle have been credited with an interest in the 21-year-old for a while now and he continues to do the business for PSV with six goals and three assists in 21 appearances in all competitions so far this season.
Transfer journalist Graeme Bailey has now told Geordie Boot Boys that he sees Bakayoko as a perfect fit for Newcastle.
“He’s a player who ticks a lot of boxes analytically, and when you watch him as well.
“I think he suits Newcastle in his style of play. He’s a bit like Allan Saint-Maximin with more end product for me. He’ll get fans off their seats.
“He’s definitely on Newcastle’s list, if they are able to do something in January.”
Newcastle will have to weigh up the pros and cons of going for a younger, less experienced but vastly cheaper player over one of the Premier League tried and tested wingers.
