Newcastle United have put their priorities in place ahead of the January transfer window
The Magpies are keen to add to the squad after a rather stagnant past 12 months which has seen just Lewis Hall signed on a permanent deal to improve the first team.
Toon boss Eddie Howe was very keen on signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in summer and even put forward a bid thought to be worth over £70million forward which was turned down.
Newcastle have had to part ways with players they would have rather kept. The summer transfer window saw the departures of Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh - Two players who look to have bright futures in the Premier League.
Now, Howe has his sights set on one position to add firepower to the Newcastle squad that is yearning for more quality to help them push for European football.
Newcastle have struggled to find a quality right winger to come in and improve the squad. Miguel Almiron found form during the 2021/22 season which quickly went away. Minteh looked to be Newcastle's next starting winger after a successful spell on loan at Feyenoord but PSR meant he had to be moved on to avoid a potential points deduction.
Semenyo has enjoyed a positive start to the Premier League season scoring four goals and assisting one in 12 games. The Ghanian international has been a key figure for Andoni Iraola who is keen to keep him at the club.
The Cherries have reportedly placed a £60m price tag on his head.
According to Mark Douglas of the iPaper the Magpies are keen on signing Brentford winger Mbuemo who could be available for around £50m in January.
The though is that Newcastle would need to sell before any players can be brought in with PSR still causing problems for many clubs.
It's difficult enough for some clubs to sign players with PSR a consistent threat to clubs like Newcastle. Before the sale of Anderson and Minteh the club were potentially hours away from a points deduction.
According to TBR, Howe was informed that he shouldn't get his hopes up for the January transfer window as the potential to spend might not be there. It comes down to selling players on now, something Howe will be keen to do with the amount of deadwood still at the club from the Mike Ashley era.
Players like Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron look like they could be set for exits in January with the likes of Kieran Trippier also rumoured to be on his way out. A busy December schedule lies ahead for Howe's side, it's parts of the season like this where you wish for more quality and depth in those positions.
Signing a player like Semenyo or Mbuemo would be perfect for Newcastle not only for the depth but for the attacking threat. Newcastle have only scored 14 goals in the Premier League this season, a far cry from their goal scoring prowess they had last season.
