Newcastle United remain interested in 25-year-old England star despite rumours quietening down lately
With all of the noise Newcastle United's search for a striker has kicked up, the Magpies' search for other positions has seemed to have disappeared into the background.
Newcastle have seen Joao Pedro and Hugo Ekitike follow Liam Delap's lead and head elsewhere recently, and while Newcastle have been looking for a new striker, the speculation around their current forward, Alexander Isak, has been deafening.
As a result, the fact that James Trafford is leaning towards a return to Manchester City after Newcastle's constant stalling has faded into the background, but remains a very real concern.
Meanwhile, we've almost forgotten about our search for a young centre-back to play alongside Sven Botman.
Last summer, Newcastle's window was dominated by news around Marc Guehi as the Magpies and Crystal Palace were locked in talks for weeks before Newcastle eventually got sick of the games and walked away.
This year, Palace's position is weakened by the fact that Guehi has entered the final year of his contract. Although things have gone very quiet on the Guehi front amid interest from Liverpool. The Reds have already shown their pulling power by landing Hugo Ekitike from under the noses of Newcastle, and it's expected they could do the same with Guehi.
According to The Athletic, Newcastle are still keen on Marc Guehi, so there's still a chance we go back in for the 25-year-old England star, but it's likely any approach we make will kick Liverpool into action too.
Atalanta's Giorgio Scalvini is also an option for Newcastle, and we get the feeling that Newcastle fans would prefer we moved for the Italian rather than trying to deal with Crystal Palace again after last year's shenanigans. Perhaps Newcastle's latest staff addition, Suds, can put in a good word thanks to his Atalanta connections.
Marseille's Leonardo Balerdi is also still in Newcastle's thoughts, but thankfully, Axel Disasi is not, while The Athletic also claim that Nicolo Savona is also not currently being considered despite recent reports.
Who Newcastle will end up with this summer is anyone's guess, but if we don't start being more realistic in negotiations, we could still end up with nobody.
