Newcastle United midfielder Jamie Miley moved to Newport County on loan in the summer after impressing Eddie Howe in pre-season.

In the absence of his younger brother, Lewis, Jamie Miley was brought into Eddie Howe's squad for pre-season and did enough to impress the gaffer with the decision then taken to loan out the midfielder to get some more experience.

However, since his move to Newport, Miley has played just eight times and Newcastle have now taken the move to terminate the loan early and bring Miley back to Tyneside.

Now the club must decide what to do next with the 20-year-old who has been afflicted by a few injuries this season, not even making his Newport debut until October after joining in August due to having hernia surgery.

The club put out a statement via the official site after recalling the youngster.

"The 20-year-old joined the Sky Bet League Two club on loan last summer and made eight appearances in all competitions for the Welsh club with six of those coming in league fixtures.

"Before heading out on loan, Miley featured in the first-team in pre-season, playing in the friendlies against Hull City, Urawa Red Diamonds and Girona."

The statement doesn't give much away, but The Chronicle are reporting that Miley will spend some time with the first team so Eddie Howe can take a closer look before deciding what to do with another loan move the most likely outcome.

There are some fans who believe this could be the end of the road for Miley, with rumours circulating last week that he would be recalled and sold.

It's probably too soon to draw any conclusions, especially as the loan move was hampered by injuries, so it's hard to point fingers at either Miley or Newport.
