There's no rest for the wicked as Newcastle United, after taking part in the FA Cup third round on Sunday, now gear up for another game on Wednesday night in the Premier League.
Eddie Howe made nine changes to his starting XI on Sunday with one eye on the Premier League fixture, but there were a handful of first-team players who were likely to have missed Sunday's game regardless of the opposition.
Alexander Isak and Sven Botman were both hooked during the game against Arsenal after feeling muscle tightness and Eddie Howe made an early decision to rest the pair.
Then, heading into the game against Bromley, Joe Willock pulled up with another injury, although Eddie Howe says it's not too bad.
Speaking after the win over Bromley, Eddie Howe told reporters (via The Chronicle) that he has a handful of players carrying minor knocks, but hopes they will be fit for Wednesday.
“Joe just felt something in training yesterday. I think it is a muscular problem. I don’t think it’s serious but it was enough for us not to take the risk with him. Similar with Alex [Isak], Sven [Botman] and Jacob Murphy."
The Chronicle also shed light on Harvey Barnes' half time disappearances saying that the former Leicester City winger had a tightness in his quad so Howe took the precaution to take him out of the rest of the game.
We've got everything crossed that Isak and Murphy are fit again for Wednesday. Partly to keep their deadly partnership going but mostly so we don't have to tolerate another game watching Miguel Almiron passing to anyone but a teammate.
Joe Willock would likely be primed for the bench against Wolves, and we don't want to take any chances with Sven Botman either, so we're cool with whatever happens with those two.
Barnes, like Willock, would have been on the bench regardless, so again, not too much of a worry compared to Isak and, I can't believe we're saying this, Jacob Murphy.
