Newcastle United are expected to clear the decks in the summer while bringing in a slew of new arrivals. By 'expected', we mean that we all hope that's what's going to happen.

As things stand, Newcastle's squad is pretty barebones in terms of numbers and quality, but there are still several players who could easily be offloaded in the summer.

It's the fact that they, along with players who have already left, will need replacing with a couple of extra additions needed on top, and with PSR hanging on like the unflushable turd it is, that task isn't going to be simple.

One way to make it easier would be to sell a couple of players, even if it's just for a few million to unlock more PSR headroom, which is what may well happen with one of Eddie Howe's favourites.

Eddie Howe and Kieran Trippier could be separated in the summer

Newcastle to let Kieran Trippier leave in summer

Once hailed as 'magnificent' by Howe, and adored by fans, Kieran Trippier's time at Newcastle could finally be coming to an end this summer after what will be 18 months of speculation.

Give Me Sport are reporting that Trippier will have just 12 months left on his contract in the summer and Newcastle are likely to want to recoup some money for the former England man rather than lose him for free next year.

The 34-year-old had the opportunity to leave in January but opted to stick around in the hopes of lifting a trophy with the Magpies before he leaves. Newcastle are in Carabao Cup final action next month and are still in the race for the FA Cup.

Kieran Trippier has been fantastic for Newcastle

Kieran Trippier was Eddie Howe's first signing as Newcastle boss and was absolutely brilliant for the Magpies initially, but if we're being brutally honest, he's getting on a bit and is not the player he used to be.

He still has good games in him, for sure, but he has howlers, too. Look no further than Saturday's game against Manchester City.

We absolutely adore Trippier, but if we can pick up a few quid for him in the summer, we'd be mad not to.
