Eddie Howe didn't have a negative word to say about Kieran Trippier at full-time despite the vice-captain being at fault for all three goals.
Kieran Trippier had a bad day at the office at Goodison Park tonight as two errors were pounced upon by Everton to put the Toffees two goals ahead before Beto made it 3-0 after a VAR check which eventually ruled that Trippier had played the Portuguese onside.
While we have named and shamed Trippier as being at fault for Everton's goals, there is a part of us that feels bad about that as we know how much he gives for this club. He will never back down from the challenge and always gives everything for the shirt.
It's that tenacity though, that may also be his downfall.
Trippier is not the type of player to knock on Eddie Howe's door and ask to be given a rest because he's tired, but maybe he needs to be. Give Tino Livramento the right-back role for a game or two with Lewis Hall on the left. Or keep Tino where he is and let Emil Krafth have a game.
Tripps is 33 and runs about like a 20-year-old and then goes and does it for England too. He never gets a rest.
That being said, Eddie Howe was asked if he believes Trippier will bounce back from tonight's mistakes in his post-match interview on Amazon Prime.
“He’s been absolutely magnificent, has been a catalyst for everything we’ve done, but yeah he’ll bounce back.”
We know he will too, errors from Trippier have been very rare since he joined for £12million in January 2022. However, we need to seriously think if a tired, error-prone Trippier is better than no Trippier, if just for a game or two.
