Newcastle United now gearing up for another summer transfer battle with Crystal Palace after Marc Guehi shenanigans

Last summer Newcastle United wasted a huge chunk of the transfer window pointlessly negotiating with Crystal Palace over the sale of England defender Marc Guehi. Each time an agreement seemingly got close, Palace co-chairman Steve Parish moved the goalposts.

From a Newcastle perspective, it was an extremely frustrating and utterly pointless process, however, we imagine from the other side it was a masterstroke by Parish who kept Newcastle locked in looking at one player while the window closed.

Thankfully, those who conduct the club's business are less likely to take such things personally and it seems that the Magpies could be set to reenter negotiations with Crystal Palace this summer.

While rumours are bound to flare up around Marc Guehi again this summer, he's not the subject of the latest rumours.

Adam Wharton has been quality since arriving at Selhurst Park

Adam Wharton is back on the menu at Newcastle United

According to Caught Offside, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Newcastle United are set for a three-way tug-of-war over Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton.

The former Blackburn midfielder was being tracked by Newcastle before he moved to Palace, and since the move he has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water.

Wharton is locked in with another four years left on his deal and has shown no indication of wanting to leave Selhurst Park, so the Champions League-chasing trio will have their work cut out if they want to seriously attempt to take Wharton away. And given Parish's negotiating tactics, it really won't be easy.

We're not sure where Adam Wharton would fit as things stand

Should Newcastle's interest be genuine, Wharton would be a phenomenal addition to the squad. The 21-year-old has been fantastic since moving to Crystal Palace, likely making Newcastle chiefs not making their move when they had the chance.

The question we have is: Where does he fit at Newcastle? With Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton the obvious first choice three midfielders and Lewis Miley and Joe Willock backing them up, the midfield is pretty crowded. There's also Sean Longstaff, but we expect he'll move on this summer.

Newcastle have other positions to fill that are a much higher priority, but at the same time, we are huge fans of Wharton and really wouldn't object to his arrival if we could find room.
