Whether or not Newcastle United want to waste their time trying to deal with Steve Parish again over a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is entirely up to them, but it's safe to say that most fans have moved on.

Crystal Palace played silly games in the summer if media reports are to be believed, with Steve Parish changing his valuation of the England centre-back several times, speaking to the media to provoke Newcastle into action with statements like it would take 'superstar money' to land Guehi.

Ultimately, Parish strung Newcastle along until the 11th hour before pulling away from the deal entirely. As a Palace fan, you'll be thinking Parish is a genius, but Newcastle fans had other words for him, none of which we can print here.

The Newcastle fanbase as a whole wasn't entirely sold on Guehi as it was, and the higher the price tag got, the fewer fans saw value in the deal and were hoping the club would move on to other targets.

Marc Guehi could be on the move in January

Chelsea are in talks with Crystal Palace over a move for Marc Guehi

Newcastle ended up not filling that centre-back spot at all, and the Magpies are still in the market for one in January.

Meanwhile, Chelsea and Crystal Palace appear to be in talks over a move for Marc Guehi and suddenly, the 'superstar's' asking price is considerably lower than it was in the summer after Parish's game.

The Athletic are reporting that £40 million will be enough to get a deal done with Guehi's contract running down. In fact, if a deal isn't done in January, desperation could kick in for Palace in the summer as Guehi enters his final year.

Chelsea have a sell-on clause in Marc Guehi's contract so they could get a hefty discount

Parish may think he won by getting at least another six months out of his star player, but Guehi's form in the early part of the season was anything but star quality, although he, and indeed Crystal Palace have started to improve lately.

Should Chelsea strike a deal with Crystal Palace it could be a double blow to Parish as Guehi's contract has a sell-on clause ... to Chelsea, meaning they'd get a percentage of their outlay back were they to seal the deal. Brilliant.

However, The Athletic does suggest that Chelsea may have to waive that clause to get the deal done.

Should Newcastle go back for Guehi if we could get him for £40 million, or are we over him now?
