Eddie Howe confirmed last night's news that Callum Wilson will be missing for yet another three games for Newcastle United.

While that news in itself was infuriating for Newcastle fans, it likely wasn't welcomed by Alexander Isak either who is shouldering the burden of being Newcastle's only fit, proven striker.

Will Osula is there as back up but has yet to score a Premier League goal leaving Alexander Isak as Eddie Howe's only real viable option.

Isak himself is returning from an injury and hasn't been at 100% for a while, but with Newcastle struggling for goals, Eddie Howe hasn't been afforded the luxury of resting the 'phenomenal' Sweden striker.

Eddie Howe says Alexander Isak has been working hard to get back to full fitness

Speaking to the media (via The Chronicle) on Friday morning ahead of Sunday's trip to Stamford Bridge, Eddie Howe touched on the fitness of Alexander Isak and mentioned how he's been working hard in training to get back to 100%.

"He's another player that's done a lot of work this week to get his fitness levels up to 100%.

"I left him on the pitch because he's one of the most likely players to score even if he was tired towards the end.

"No, he's trained well this week. I think he knows the burden of being the the number nine at Newcastle. I think you you do carry an extra weight with that but I think he's done that brilliantly since he's been here.

"We need to support him and give him chances. It was great to see him have seven shots last week. So that was a good return on that backing. If he's having seven shots every week, that he's gonna score a lot of goals."

Newcastle desperately need to find their form in front of goal

If ever there was a time to rediscover our goal scoring touch from last season it's in Sunday's game with Chelsea.

The Blues will not make it easy for us, and are highly likely to find the net themselves. Indeed, Chris Sutton and Paul Merson are expecting plenty of goals in the game, so Newcastle need to make sure they're amongst them.

Getting Isak back on the goal trail will be fantastic, but frankly, we don't care who puts them away at this point, just have a shot and see what happens.
