Wingers are like busses, Newcastle United wait around for ages then two potentially come along at once.

After the news this morning that Federico Chiesa could find himself on the transfer market this summer should talks with Thiago Motta not go his way this week, it has now come out that Nicolas Gonzalez may not be as 'untransferrable' as once thought.

It was only five days ago that Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Pradè labeled the Argentinan winger "99% untransferrable" after it had been suggested that the Magpies had submitted a lowball offer.

Less than a week later, La Nazione, the very same outlet that ran the story last week, are now saying that Gonzalez could be available for £25 million - £30 million with Newcastle, Atletico Madrid and clubs in Saudi Arabia keen on the winger.

Gonzalez looks to be a good option should Newcastle make a move

What makes this even more bizarre is that last summer Brentford tried to land Gonzalez with a £36 million bid which was rejected - however, some reports claim it was more like £25 million, so we'd assumed that it would take a higher bid this year to get Fiorentina to the negotiating table.

After a season in which Gonzalez managed 16 goals and five assists in 44 games and then went on to lift the Copa America for the second time, you'd imagine that his value would have increased.

If Newcastle can now get Gonzalez for sub-£30 million, then what are we waiting for?

Nicolas Gonzalez prefers to play on the right wing

Like Federico Chiesa, Gonzalez is 26 and capable of playing on either wing, but unlike Chiesa, the right wing is Gonzalez' preferred position which probably puts him just ahead of the Italian in terms of an ideal signing.

Options appear to be opening up for Newcastle to get in that right-winger that they so desperately need. Now all we need to do is act on it.

We've said this before and it didn't pan out but we're going to say it again ... this week has the feeling of a new signing arriving.
