Newcastle United are no closer to signing the replacement for Miguel Almiron as links to potential solutions come and go in the media.
One name that is never far away from a speculated move to Newcastle is Federico Chiesa who was on the Magpies' radar last summer but the 26-year-old Italy remained at Juventus.
This year the player and the club are locked in a contract stalemate with the belief being that Chiesa is not happy with the terms on offer.
Now, HITC is reporting that Chiesa and Juventus manager Thiago Motta are set for a meeting this week to work things through.
Newcastle will be one of several Premier League clubs keeping an eye on the outcome of that meeting with Chelsea, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Arsenal also monitoring Chiesa this summer.
Like most of the Italy squad, Chiesa didn't really set the world alight at Euro 2024 this summer, however, we saw enough to know that he would certainly be a step up from Miguel Almiron should Newcastle manage to beat all of the other interested parties to his signature.
Chiesa is comfortable playing on either wing, much like Gordon, however, also like Gordon his preference is to play on the left, but he did play on the right for Italy at that Euros and did look dangerous at times.
At one point this summer it was reported that Juventus would let Chiesa go for just £21 million, but that stance seems to have changed given the ongoing contract discussions.
If that ends up being the asking price should the talks stall, then Newcastle (or whoever) could nap themselves a bargain.
If we truly want to compete next season then we need a top-class winger out on the right and that is unlikely to come cheap ... unless Juventus would take £21 million for Chiesa, then we'd have plenty left in the tank for another purchase or to keep for January.
