Newcastle United have been put on alert after a player they chased last summer and have once again shown interest in has been told he is surplus to requirements.

Federico Chiesa was linked with a move to Newcastle last summer but ultimately signed a new two-year deal with Juventus to remain with The Old Lady.

One year on, however, and it seems that there won't be another extension on offer for Chiesa who, like most of the Italy squad, didn't have the best of times at Euro 2024.

With a year left on his current deal, Thiago Motta has told Chiesa he is not part of his first-team plans and the club will be looking to sell him during this transfer window.

Newcastle could pick up Chiesa for a bargain fee

Juventus will demand €25million (£21million) plus add-ons for his services according to Fabrizio Romano, which will likely put the Magpies on high alert.

Confidence that a deal could be done for Chiesa has been up and down since Eddie Howe's side were linked with an interest, and it's currently low, but now he's been told he's not part of Juventus' plans, that may change once again.

Again, based on his showing at Euro 2024, some fans may take some convincing, but he did have his moments in that tournament, but he was playing in an Italy side that were very much not at the races.

Chiesa has been outstanding for Juventus

In his time at Juventus, however, Chiesa has made 131 appearances scoring 32 goals and providing 23 assists while playing all around the midfield and forward positions.

His main position is listed as left-winger on Transfermarkt, but if Newcastle were looking to bring in Chiesa we suspect he'd be deployed mostly on the right as a replacement for Miguel Almiron.

With his versatility, however, he and Anthony Gordon could swap flanks on a whim to keep the opposition on their toes ... provided we manage to retain Gordon with Liverpool pushing hard to take him to Anfield.
