With just over a week until the transfer window closes Newcastle United look no closer to signing a right-winger than they were at the start of the window in July.

Not only that, but they don't look any closer to getting rid of the headless flamingo either which could be the main reason why the search for Miguel Almiron's replacement has been put on the back burner.

There have been many names mentioned over the summer but the player that always looked like the most likely to move was Chelsea's Noni Madueke.

Madueke has only been at Chelsea for around 18 months but with a trillion other players on their books they aren't short of options, and could also do with moving a few players on.

Newcastle aren't pursuing Noni Madueke

However, The Daily Mail has now claimed that Newcastle are not pursuing Madueke despite all of the reports suggesting otherwise.

The £29 million arrival from PSV has been linked to Newcastle for weeks, and Chelsea's situation made this one look like it would be relatively easy to get done.

Indeed, it may still happen if Newcastle decide to make an approach, but it doesn't sound like there's been any movement on that front yet.

We're going to be stuck with Miggy, aren't we?

It of course brings up the big question, if not Madueke, then who?

It's looking increasingly likely that we're going to be stuck with Miggy and Jacob Murphy for another season, which is less than ideal.

Federico Chiesa is still available with Juventus wanting rid of the winger to free up some of their budget, but he could also be another name like Madueke that is purely media-driven with no genuine interest from the club.
