Newcastle United could do with adding some firepower to their side this summer for those rare occasions when Alexander Isak isn't feeling it.

The Sweden striker missed a fair few games through injury last year as did his back-up Callum Wilson - "fair few" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in his case.

As well as strikers, Newcastle could do with a new right winger and possibly even a number 10 depending on how Eddie Howe fancies lining up the side next year.

Thankfully, the Magpies now seem to have their eyes on a man who can cover all of those roles and more according to The Sunday Mirror (page 72).

Thorsteinsson's versatility is impressive

Eddie Howe now reportedly has his eye on 25-year-old Iceland international Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson who is currently plying his trade in the Belgian Pro League with OH Leuven.

Thorsteinsson played 28 league games last season, scoring four goals and providing five assists, and while those may not be mind-blowing numbers, what is impressive is the fact he played six different positions in those games from centre-midfield, left midfield, CAM and then all across the front line.

That's the kind of versatility that is priceless, as long as he can deliver the performances to back it up.

Thorsteinsson scored a fantastic goal against England recently

If the name looks familiar it's because Thorsteinsson recently bagged the winning goal in England's 1-0 defeat to Iceland prior to Euro 2024 with an excellent drilled effort from the edge of the area.

Newcastle aren't the only Premier League club looking at him, though, with newly-promoted Leicester City keen as well as West Ham, with Leicester being the sister club of OH Leuven, they could be seen as favourites.

While his versatility is impressive, his actual numbers aren't mindblowing, and given that's in the Belgian Pro League, it does make us wonder if he can make the step up to the top end of the Premier League.
