More details around Amanda Staveley's abrupt departure from Newcastle United have now surfaced six months on

In a lot of ways, it was a summer to forget for Newcastle United fans. It was another dismal showing in the transfer market; there seemed to be in-fighting amongst the staff and the two most popular board members left the club with absolutely no warning.

Amanda Staveley was the face of the Saudi-backed takeover of Newcastle United and along with her husband, Mehrdad Ghodoussi, continued to be the conduit between the fans and the club.

Staveley had built up an excellent relationship with Eddie Howe and the financier seemed to really understand the fans and what they wanted.

However, one fateful day in the summer, Newcastle fans were hit with the news that Staveley and Ghodoussi had left the club causing widespread panic and confusion.

Shortly after it had all gone down, Craig Hope wrote about how the pair were forced out of the club by CEO Darren Eales who claimed he found it hard to do his job properly with them constantly looking over his shoulder.

Now, around six months on, The Telegraph has reported the same, but have also provided further reasons behind the dramatic move.

"Despite the kind words that followed, Staveley had been forced out. She did not have the money to keep investing in the club alongside PIF and the Reuben family, but she was also perceived as a loose cannon and did not rub along easily with chief executive Darren Eales."

Newcastle have a much different strategy now to what they did last year

Amanda Staveley's gung-ho attitude towards spending is the main reason Newcastle have been unable to move in the transfer market lately. Those early big signings blew through the club's PSR headroom leaving Newcastle with a bunch of top players, but very little depth making any form of success heavily dependent on luck with injuries.

The club is now more focused on long-term sustainability rather than quick-fix solutions which is why we're seeing a more measured approach in the transfer market.

The Telegraph even makes clear that Eddie Howe, while he would obviously love to have the money to spend, is on board with this strategy and that he and Paul Mitchell have a much stronger working relationship than is being reported.

Mitchell and Howe's alleged rocky relationship was a huge contributing factor to the summer madness that makes fans want to forget.
