Newcastle United made it to the final of the Carabao Cup in 2023 but lost out on the day to Manchester United and now Lewis Hall is hoping the Magpies can go one step further this season.

Brentford travel to St James' Park on Wednesday night for a Carabao Cup quarter-final clash and Lewis Hall is determined to see off the competition in a bid to go all the way this season.

Hall was still at Chelsea when Newcastle were at Wembley, but the lifelong Newcastle fan knows just how much it would mean to the supporters to see the Magpies lift a trophy.

Despite that, Hall isn't getting ahead of himself and is fully focused on Brentford on Wednesday.

Lewis Hall and Anthony Gordon are forming a fantastic partnership

Lewis Hall believes Newcastle can go all the way this season

Hall told The Northern Echo that the Carabao Cup is a competition he and the rest of the squad believe they can win this season.

"It’s a competition that’s important for us because we know what it would mean to the fans.

"We came so close a couple of years ago, obviously I wasn’t here then, but even from the outside I could tell how much it meant to the fan base.

"It's a massive game, and it’s a competition that we feel like we have the quality to win.

"You don’t want to look too far ahead but you know that’s the main aim to be in that final at Wembley but we just need to focus on Wednesday,"

Newcastle should feel more at home at Wembley should they make it there again

With six former and current England players in the squad as things stand, Newcastle should be starting to find Wembley much less daunting, so if they get there this season, you'd like to think we'd be better equipped to deal with the occasion.

Hall is now among those England internationals and is hoping to become a regular feature in a bid to keep the partnership between himself and Anthony Gordon alive at international as well as club level.

"You want partnerships all over the pitch and I really enjoy playing with Ant because he’s obviously a fantastic player.

"Sometimes it can make my job easier a little bit by giving him the ball. He does a lot of work on and off the ball and I really enjoy working with him."
