'I would not be surprised': Pat Nevin now says Chelsea could make audacious move for Newcastle United star this month

Former Chelsea star Pat Nevin was feeling feisty recently when discussing the Blues January transfer business.

We're talking about a London club, with a London-club-adjacent pundit and an audacious bid for a Newcastle United player. There are no prizes on offer if you've worked out who it is.

Of course, it's Alexander Isak. We've endured months of speculation linking Arsenal with a move for our star striker, a lot of which has been tinged with an air of entitlement that sets our blood boiling.

Chelsea have often been floating in the background too, but Arsenal have been the main offenders, but Pat Nevin has tried to even the score with his comments to Grosvenor Sport (via The Express).

Pat Nevin has joined the Isak to London bandwagon

You can tell by the language Nevin uses that he doesn't even believe his own story here.

"I would not be surprised if Chelsea made a huge bid for Alexander Isak this January if they get any sort of hint that he is available. Chelsea would love him."

There's a huge get-out clause in Nevin's statement there, and it's a key one ... "if they get any sort of hint that he is available".

We don't think Newcastle would budge even if a £150m bid came in

That hint isn't coming, Pat. Newcastle will never drop any kind of hint that their most in-form player is going to be available this month, and especially not to a Premier League rival.

We know that Chelsea don't know the value of money, nor do they seem to care about PSR, but not even Todd Boehly has the stones to try and land Alexander Isak.

The asking price is £150 million, but that's just a number designed to put clubs off making a move. We imagine we'd reject a bid for that amount if anyone was actually crazy enough to try.

Newcastle need that money, but knowing that they'd not be able to replace what Isak brings to the side makes the deal a non-starter right now.
