'Good feelings': Fabrizio Romano issues update on Newcastle United's pursuit of Matheus Cunha following 'quick deal' claim

Newcastle United have long admired Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha, and given that the Brazilian will have an active £62.5 million release clause in the summer, it's widely expected that he will leave Molineux ahead of next season.

However, Newcastle aren't the only big side interested in Cunha, with Manchester United ramping up their interest in the 25-year-old.

On Monday, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano had said that he expects Cunha's future to be sorted quickly thanks to that release clause and went on to namecheck Newcastle as a club very keen on the forward.

However, he has since followed that up with an update that suggests he could be heading somewhere other than St James' Park.

It had been reported that Matheus Cunha's preference was a move to Manchester United, and going off Romano's latest update on X, he could get his wish.

"🚨 Manchester United are leading the race to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves as negotiations are ongoing.

"Personal terms are being discussed, as Man Utd are aware of more clubs keen + £62.5m release clause available.

"Good feelings after initial contacts between Cunha and #MUFC."

We still can't understand why anyone would opt for this Manchester United over Newcastle. History and pedigree are one thing, but this current Man United side, and indeed the club as a whole, is nothing compared to what it used to be.

Newcastle have a project so exciting that a young Spanish player just opted to sign for us over Real Madrid and Barcelona.

But, hey, you do you, Cunha, you might be the one to turn Man United's fortunes around. There are a lot of Newcastle fans who will be pleased to see the Magpies miss out on Matheus Cunha this summer.
