Elliot Anderson has shared how he felt finding out he was being sold to Nottingham Forest

In the summer, Newcastle United were forced by oppressive PSR into selling promising young stars Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson to Brighton and Nottingham Forest, respectively.

Newcastle fans were excited to see Yankuba Minteh in action in a black and white shirt after an impressive loan spell at Feyenoord, which immediately followed his signing for the Magpies.

Unfortunately, Geordies never got to see what he could do for Newcastle as the club was forced to sell him to Brighton for £33 million to avoid sanctions for breaching PSR.

At the same time, Newcastle green-lit a move for Elliot Anderson to move to Nottingham Forest for £35 million while we took Greek goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos for £20 million as part of the deal.

Letting Minteh go was bad enough, but seeing fan-favourite and academy graduate Elliot Anderson sold really riled up the fans, and indeed Eddie Howe.

Anderson has gone on to be a big part of the Nottingham Forest revolution this season with the East Midlands club sitting comfortably in the Premier League top four, but Anderson couldn't have predicted having such a good season, and he told BBC Sport that it was 'sad' leaving Newcastle.

“Yeah, it was very sad. Obviously, you never know you’re going to join a club and play, so in my head at the time, I didn’t know it was going to go the way it has.

” I was really settled there and I didn’t see it coming, so it was a tough one to take. As a footballer, you’ve got to be prepared for any challenge that comes your way, and it wasn’t to be there, but I’ve come to a great club, and I’m really enjoying it.”

It has been seven months since Anderson left Newcastle, and fans still aren't really over it. The 22-year-old was swimming in potential and now some other club is benefitting from it when it should have been his boyhood club reaping the rewards.

It's just another reason for Newcastle fans to shake an angry fist at PSR with the Premier League clubs meeting today to discuss changes to the rules going forward.

They're bound to mess that up, though. That's just what they do. They try to 'fix' the game and make it 10 times worse.
