Newcastle United have completed their second signing of the summer after Lloyd Kelly after the deal was announced at 1am this morning.

As part of a hat trick of deals announced in the dead of night as Newcastle scraped through under the PSR deadline, the club confirmed, via their official site, that Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos has joined the club.

Likely part of a quasi-swap deal that involved Elliot Anderson going to Nottingham Forest , the two clubs have helped each other out when it comes to fending off potential points deductions.

As things stand we've got no idea how long his contract is or how much he cost the club.

Newcastle announced the deal under the cover of darkness

Much like the Elliot Anderson announcement, details were thin on the ground on the club's website however, this time we did get a quote from the player and Eddie Howe this time with Vlachodimas saying it's an honour to sign for Newcastle.

"I am very happy to be joining Newcastle United. It's an honour for me to be part of this huge club, with excellent players and a great coach. I can't wait to get started!"

Meanwhile, Eddie Howe has hailed the Greece international's experience as a huge positive.

"Odysseas is very experienced at elite European and international level and he joins a strong group of senior goalkeepers.

"That strength in depth is valuable and means we go into the new season with strong competition in a key area."

Vlachodimas has bags of experience

Vlachodimas underwent his medical in Athens on Sunday prior to his move according to The Chronicle, who also believe he will want to fight for Nick Pope's spot despite coming in to be third-choice.

The 30-year-old has experience at the highest level having represented Benfica in the Champions League as well as 42 international appearances for Greece, those coming after representing Germany from U15 right through to U21 before switching allegiance.

Now the question remains, will we ever actually see Vlachodimas in a Newcastle kit in anything other than a friendly? Maybe a Carabao Cup final, eh?
