The Newcastle United train kept on rolling last night as Wolverhampton Wanderers became the ninth successive victim of Eddie Howe's Mags.

Alexander Isak continued his rich vein of goalscoring form at St James' Park last night bagging two goals for himself as well as setting one up for Anthony Gordon.

There has been a lot of talk about Alexander Isak potentially leaving Newcastle, although none of it has come from any source of truth, purely media speculation.

However, we would be remiss if we didn't thank Arsenal for allowing us to field their star striker week in week out.

Eddie Howe confirms Newcastle aren't shopping in January

After the game last night, Eddie Howe spoke to TNT Sports to heap praise on Isak and the rest of his team, but the inevitable question around transfers also came up at the end of the interview and it wasn't good news for Newcastle fans. Although it also wasn't unexpected news.

"We're not actively looking for any player in any position. My main job is to try and keep what we have."

We were all pretty aware by now that January wasn't going to be a busy month in terms of incoming deals, but hearing it put so bluntly by the gaffer really does bring it home.

Miguel Almiron is expected to leave this month

Of course, that statement isn't going to stop the speculation, and there'll still be plenty of rumours as the transfer window passes us by, but we'll be treating the stories as if they are summer targets.

Selling Miguel Almiron this month will pump some much-needed funds into the club, albeit not great sums, but every little helps. Newcastle are already in a better position to tackle this summer's window after posting their first profit in five years.

Even if Almiron is the only player to leave this month, it's still better than nothing. And right now, do we really want to disrupt things too much? We're in amazing form and you never know what could tip the scales in the other direction.
