It seems that Newcastle United aren't quite done in the transfer window just yet and more players could follow Miguel Almiron out of the club this month.
Jamie Miley is close to agreeing a permanent switch to Hartlepool United while rumours have resurfaced regarding Kieran Trippier to Turkey.
However, the one that has caught the eye recently is Leeds United's interest in £15 million man, Matt Targett.
Leeds are in the race for promotion back to the Premier League but as yet, Daniel Farke hasn't dipped into the transfer market to strengthen his side while those around Leeds have.
On Tuesday, rumours surfaced via David Ornstein that Leeds were looking to sign Matt Targett from Newcastle.
The 29-year-old has barely appeared for Newcastle since his excellent loan spell became an ill-fated permanent switch, and now that Lewis Hall has made that left-back spot his own, Targett could be deemed surplus to requirements with Dan Burn and Lloyd Kelly able to play at left-back too.
However, the word coming out of Leeds United is that there is no interest in Targett.
The Chronicle ran the following quote which pours a serious amount of cold water on the idea.
“Our information from Elland Road this morning is that talk of Matt Targett leaving is ‘complete fabrication’.”
It's a strong statement by Leeds, but we've seen things like this before. However, Targett is a risky signing given his injury record, and Leeds might not have the space in the treatment room to accommodate him with Patrick Bamford's permanent residency in there.
