Newcastle United added their name to the list of suitors for Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise but with his £60million release clause only active for Champions League sides they face an uphill battle.

It was reported recently, however, that Newcastle have a backup plan if they are to miss out Olise and given Chelsea are in pole position to land the 22-year-old it was a plan that made sense.

Should Olise move to Chelsea then Newcastle would move to relieve the Blues of winger Noni Madueke who joined the Blues for £30million last summer.

Madueke took a while to get going at Chelsea last season but started to impress by the end of the campaign.

Federico Chiesa is still on Newcastle's list

Chelsea don't want to sell Noni Madueke even if they bag Olise

It's that pickup in form that may be the reason why the Magpies may find themselves disappointed should they put their plan into action this summer.

The Athletic claim that Chelsea want Michael Olise to compete with Noni Madueke for that right-wing berth and will not be looking to offload the young Englishman.

Thankfully, Newcastle still have a decent list of other targets for that position, all of which could be difficult to pull off but nonetheless look promising.

Newcastle have several alternatives in mind

Newcastle have long held an interest in Italy international Federico Chiesa from Juventus and with talks over a new deal stalling, the Magpies will be keeping a close eye on that one.

Eddie Howe is also said to be keen on Jarrod Bowen of West Ham who is currently away with England at Euro 2024.

Newcastle also have interest in Atletico Madrid's Nico Williams who stated the other day that he's happy at where he is, as well as Wolves' Pedro Neto who has been on the Toon radar for a while.

Jarrod Bowen or Federico Chiesa would do nicely, thanks. Make it happen.
