Today brought news that Newcastle United have thrown their hat in the ring for Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise.

The Magpies are set to activate Olise's £60million release clause but will face intense competition with Chelsea and Bayern Munich also having reached out to Crystal Palace while both Manchester clubs are also eyeing up a move.

Chelsea is thought to be Olise's preferred destination after rejecting the Blues last year.

However, should Olise opt for Chelsea, that could play into Newcastle's hands.

Michael Olise is Newcastle's priority but they have a backup in mind

Newcastle want a new right winger to replace Miguel Almiron and while Michael Olise is currently in their sights, they do have a backup plan according to inews.

Said backup is Noni Madueke who currently plays for Chelsea, so if Chelsea are successful in the pursuit of Olise, that would push Madueke even closer to the exit door.

The 22-year-old winger signed for Chelsea last summer for £30million from PSV and the England U21 international made 34 appearances in all competitions last season scoring eight goals and providing three assists.

Madueke could prove to have more potential than he's shown at Chelsea

We'd say there's a clear gap in class between the two, but if we can't get Olise, then Madueke isn't a terrible backup to have.

He may not have set the world on fire at Chelsea, but who has since moving there recently? They have managed to nerf one of the brightest young talents in world football in Mykhailo Mudryk, so we suspect there could be lot more to Madueke than we've seen so far.

Martin Keown certainly spotted his potential calling him 'outstanding' after he scored in Chelsea's 4-2 win over Leicester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
