Paul Merson once again showed his Arsenal bias when speaking to Sky Sports today and continued his, and the southern-biased media's crusade to get Newcastle United to bend over and accept that Alexander Isak should go to the Emirates.
You may probably have noticed, but the way the media and a lot of pundits have carried on when talking about Alexander Isak and Arsenal has got our back up quite a bit here at the Feed.
We can handle media speculation about our players leaving, that's par for the course, especially when we have top-class players while still being viewed as underdogs by the media from predominantly outside of the region.
However, with the Isak to Arsenal thing, it just feels as though the media and pundits see his move as a foregone conclusion like it's Arsenal's divine right to have him so they can win the league.
Paul Merson has already touted Isak to Arsenal today during his score prediction piece and he's doubled down on that when speaking to Sky Sports today about Arsenal's comeback win over Brentford last night.
“If I was Arsenal and I had the money, I would go and buy Isak. I would break the bank for him. I think he is the best of the best. I think he takes Arsenal to another level. I am looking at the all-round picture and next season as well. I think if they can get hold of Isak—who I think is the best in the business at the moment—that will be a massive coup for Arsenal.
“The way Arsenal play, I would have to go with Isak [over Haaland]. They have got a lot of build-up play, and they want the forwards to join in. He probably suits Arsenal more than Haaland.”
Newcastle have been reported to have slapped a £150 million asking price on Isak to try and deter clubs from making a move (something that Henry Winter cried himself to sleep over), but Merson doesn't seem put off by that fee.
For us, £150 million would just be enough to open negotiations and if the final figure doesn't start with a two then we'd walk away.
As long as Isak is happy here, we shouldn't even be entertaining the idea of selling him, for any money, and all evidence suggests that Isak is happy here, so Arsenal will just have to look elsewhere.
