Arsenal fans would have cried themselves to sleep last night if they were watching Alexander Isak's post-match interview with Sky Sports following Newcastle United's 2-0 win over Manchester United.
There's a strange sense of entitlement from Arsenal fans, driven by the southern-based media that Alexander Isak will inevitably become an Arsenal player because he's 'too good' for the likes of lowly Newcastle United, that plucky little team from the North East who bear no relevance to the Premier League.
Well, unfortunately for them, none of that is true. Newcastle are an increasing force in the Premier League, just look at the table. Alexander Isak is a vital part of that, and he knows it.
We have no issue with Arsenal fans getting carried away, in fairness, it's the media who are driving that narrative that grinds our gears. We've all, as fans, got ahead of ourselves when it comes to fancying a player coming to join us thanks to the media making it sound like a done deal.
The reality would have hit those Arsenal fans if they'd continued watching Monday Night Football on Sky Sports when Alexander Isak spoke to David Jones and Jamie Carragher in the studio when the former Liverpool man brought up the £150 million price tag and the potential of leaving Newcastle.
"No, it doesn’t really faze me too much. I think that’s more for you guys and for fans to talk about [talk of his £150m price tag].
"I’m in the middle of the season and I think it’s going really well for me and the team, so, you know, all my focus is here.
"I’m really happy with how things are going. My focus is on the pitch."
Jamie Carragher then told Isak that if he had £150 million he'd pay it and that he 'adores' Isak. Hands off, Jamie!
The speculation won't end, we're aware of that, but hearing Isak come out and say things like this just gives us that little bit of comfort each time.
Qualifying for the Champions League this season could silence the crowd somewhat, though, as the narrative seems to be heavily influenced by the fact that for a while, Newcastle looked out of the running for Europe.
