In the summer, Newcastle United had to find a new coach for the Under 21s after Ben Dawson ended his 10-year stint at the club to join Leicester City.

Ben Dawson was poached by then-Leicester boss Steve Cooper to work for him as a first-team coach, which proved to be an offer too good to turn down.

Unfortunately, just 15 games into the season, Leicester parted ways with Cooper. Dawson took charge of Leicester's next game, which saw them beaten 4-1 by Brentford before former Manchester United striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy took the hot seat.

Dawson kept his role at the club under Van Nistelrooy until today, which has seen the former Toon coach axed by the Foxes.

Brentford returned to haunt Ben Dawson

Ironically, it was Brentford who seemed to have sealed Dawson's fate after putting another four goals beyond Leicester whose form sees them mired in the relegation zone.

Leicester put out a statement on Monday morning announcing the departure of Dawson and fellow coach Danny Alcock.

"Leicester City has today parted company with first-team coaches Ben Dawson and Danny Alcock.

"Both Ben and Danny joined the club at the start of the 2024/25 season, serving under both Steve Cooper and Ruud van Nistelrooy, while also overseeing a brief spell in interim charge of the first team squad.

"We place on record our thanks to Ben and Danny for their contribution and service and wish them both well in the next steps of their respective careers."

Good luck to Ben Dawson in the future

Newcastle have since rejigged their entire coaching staff in the wake of Dawson's departure so there's likely no route back for him here.

We're sure he'll land on his feet somewhere and hopefully, he'll achieve his ambitions of being a successful first-team coach.

The grass isn't always greener, it seems.
