Newcastle United have not long since replaced Ben Dawson as head coach of the reserves after he left to join the first-team set-up at Leicester City under Steve Cooper.
Ben Dawson was the U21s Head Coach and Head of Academy Coaching at Newcastle after joining the club in 2014, but felt that the opportunity to work for the first-team setup at newly-promoted Leicester City was too good of an opportunity to pass up and left the Magpies in July.
Leicester haven't had the best of starts on their return to the top flight and as such have opted to part company with manager Steve Cooper.
A few other backroom staff have followed Cooper out the door but Dawson has remained.
Not only has Dawson avoided being culled, he's been handed the reigns on a temporary basis, as confirmed by the statement put out by Leicester City this afternoon.
"Leicester City Football Club has parted company with Steve Cooper, who leaves his position as First Team Manager with immediate effect.
"Assistant Manager Alan Tate and First Team Coach and Analyst Steve Rands have also left the Club. Steve, Alan and Steve depart with our thanks for their contribution during their time with the Club and with our best wishes for the future.
"Men’s First Team training will be overseen by First Team Coach Ben Dawson, supported by coaches Danny Alcock and Andy Hughes, as the Club begins the process of appointing a new manager, which we hope to conclude as soon as possible."
It'll now remain to be seen whether Dawson throws his hat in the ring to take over on a more permanent basis or whether he's happy to stick to coaching when Leicester appoint Cooper's replacement.
After leaving Newcastle to move into first-team coaching, we're sure he'd love nothing more than to make the next logical step, but he may not feel ready.
Good luck to Ben for the future.
