Newcastle United's U21s manager Ben Dawson has brought an end to his 10-year stint at the club as heads for a new role.

Ben Dawson has held a number of different roles during his tenure at Newcastle, his most recent one being in charge of the Under 21s, however, that spell is coming to an end with Dawson heading to newly-promoted Leicester City to work alongside Steve "Just Sneeze, Already" Cooper as first-team coach.

This comes not long after Under 18s coach Graeme Carrick left to join his brother at Middlesbrough.

Now sporting director Paul Mitchell, who was set to shake things up anyway, now has to find a new figurehead to lead the Under 21s forward under his stewardship.

This ends Dawson's second spell at Newcastle United

This latest stint at Newcastle was actually Dawson's second spell at Newcastle after originally joining in 2009 before leaving for a role with The FA and returning to the club in 2014 to work alongside Peter Beardsley.

The Chronicle reports that Dawson was seeking a new challenge working with first-team players so will no doubt have jumped at the opportunity to join Leicester.

There are no indications yet as to who could be in line to replace Dawson with the news coming seemingly out of the blue this afternoon.

Paul Mitchell can start from scratch with new people

We wish Dawson all the best but this could be a good thing for Newcastle.

With Paul Mitchell coming in he was likely set to rip up the plans and start again, and doing so with staff members that he's brought in will make that a lot easier.

The summer of upheaval continues, but this shouldn't have any effect on the first team - unless it distracts Mitchell from his transfer duties in which case, damn you Dawson!
