Alan Shearer praised three Newcastle United players for their performance against Crystal Palace yesterday but singled out one man above all.

Newcastle United fired another warning to the rest of the Premier League that they are now genuine contenders after demolishing Crystal Palace 4-0.

In truth, Newcastle could and perhaps should have won by an even bigger margin with Anthony Gordon hitting the bar from close range, and some last-ditch defending by Palace keeping the score to just four.

Shearer was blown away by the midfield trio who tore Palace to pieces

Speaking on Match of the Day, Alan Shearer highlighted the danger from Newcastle which was down the right side of the pitch yesterday. Recently it has been Anthony Gordon who has been the creative force in attack down the left, but yesterday the Magpies switched it up.

Sean Longstaff, Jacob Murphy, and Kieran Trippier were excellent throughout the game and Shearer delved into what made them so effective.

Murphy was our Player of the Match
“It was a really impressive performance today all over the park but particularly down that right-hand side with Murphy, Trippier, and Longstaff. They absolutely battered Crystal Palace down that side. Tyrick Mitchell had no help whatsoever.

Their play between the three of them, the understanding between the three of them; when to run, how to run, the timing of the run then the balls into the box I just thought was absolutely superb today.”

Newcastle absolutely stole Kieran Trippier from Atlético Madrid

Shearer then went on to coo about the player that Newcastle United stole in January 2022, Kieran Trippier. The evergreen England international who we picked up for just £12 million from Atlético Madrid. The man who has become the absolute linchpin of this Newcastle side and is somehow still improving.

“Trippier winning the ball back when they lose it, what a signing he’s been, what an inspiration he is to everyone.”

Seeing Trippier still getting up and down that flank at full tilt at the age of 33 really makes me question my life choices. I remember being 33 and I could barely make it to the pub at the end of my street without needing gas and air. Meanwhile, Trippier looks like he has gained a yard of pace since joining Newcastle. He's a phenomenon.
