Newcastle United ultimately coasted to a 3-0 victory against Ipswich Town on Saturday, condemning the Tractor Boys to relegation from the Premier League.

In some ways, the scoreline flattered Newcastle on Saturday, in the sense that their lack of creativity in the final third could have been their undoing were it not for Ben Johnson's first-half red card and later being awarded a penalty, which Alexander Isak slotted home.

The one-man and one-goal advantages seemed to wake Newcastle up for the second half, and while the Magpies bombarded the Ipswich box, they rarely actually threatened the goal. Thankfully, Kieran Trippier was on hand with a couple of pinpoint crosses for Dan Burn and Will Osula to nod home to make the victory look more routine than it actually felt at the time.

That being said, Newcastle absolutely dominated, and the possession stats, along with those of crosses and corners, suggest it should have been a much higher scoreline.

Another three for Newcastle

WhoScored?'s picks better reflect the game we watched than Troy Deeney's

Several Newcastle players had good games, and that is evidenced by the trio of Toon stars in WhoScored's Team of the Week, which uses the ratings from every Premier League player over the weekend to pick the best for each position, rather than one man's opinion.

Two players have made it into Troy Deeney's BBC Team of the Week and WhoScored?'s XI, but the third is very different, with Alexander Isak failing to make it into WhoScored?'s team.

Kieran Trippier (Newcastle) – 8.54

The first of three Newcastle players to feature, Kieran Trippier provided his second and third league assists of the season as the Magpies relegated Ipswich with a 3-0 win on Saturday afternoon. Trippier’s brace of assists came from three key passes, while an additional four tackles saw the experienced right-back return a WhoScored rating of 8.54.
Dan Burn (Newcastle) – 8.19

Partnering Andersen at the heart of the defence is the second Newcastle player in the side. Dan Burn earned a WhoScored rating of 8.19 against Ipswich on Saturday as he scored his first league goal of the season, getting the better of Alex Palmer with his only effort. Burn also won five aerial duels and made five clearances to justify his inclusion.
Sandro Tonali (Newcastle) – 8.01

Rounding off the Newcastle contingent is Sandro Tonali, who returned a WhoScored rating of 8.01 in Saturday’s win over Ipswich. The Italian was unlucky not to register an assist in the home triumph having made seven key passes, while a 93% pass success rate from 73 passes capped another solid showing.

Sandro Tonali's effort on Saturday was worthy of his inclusion alone

Sandro Tonali's effort that came back off the woodwork was so sweetly hit that it almost justified a place in the Team of the Week on its own. We were devastated that it didn't result in a goal.

What can we say about Kieran Trippier that hasn't already been said in recent weeks. Aston Villa aside, he's shown why he's such an important figure at Newcastle.

Dan Burn has left it late in the season to bag his customary Premier League goal, but given he scored in the Carabao Cup final, we'll likely have given him a pass if he'd not netted in the league this year.
