Gary Lineker said his goodbyes to Match of the Day on Sunday night, and it was only fitting that he had his buddies Micah Richards and Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer alongside him.

It wasn't a great watch for a Newcastle United fan, obviously, as really, who watches the highlights when we've been beaten?

However, for those of us who did watch, we got to witness a gloriously cheeky moment between Alan Shearer and Big Meeks when Gary Lineker brought up the subject of Sunderland's promotion at the weekend.

Lineker started the digs at Shearer by stating that it was a bad weekend for Shearer with Newcastle losing to Everton after Sunderland gained promotion back to the Premier League.

Micah Richards stitched Shearer right up on MODD

Lineker then pushed Shearer to say his congratulations to Sunderland with Shearer, donning the most disingenuous smile you'll ever see saying:

"I'm glad they're back up."

But Michah Richards was having none of it, jumping straight in with:

"Really? That's not what you were saying in the green room"

Hopefully, we'll find out Alan Shearer's real thoughts soon enough

Shearer laughed it off and put his hand on Micah's leg, admitting defeat, giving Meeks a "Well played".

We'd love to know what he said. Hopefully, he'll let us know on The Rest Is Football podcast, where they can say whatever they want, because we can guarantee it wouldn't have been suitable to air on the BBC.

Big Meeks really did him dirty with that one, but we have to respect the game.
