Wayne Rooney got his first win as Plymouth Argyle manager on Saturday and it came at the expense of Sunderland's unbeaten start to the Championship season.

The Mackems fell to a 3-2 defeat on the South Coast as they seemingly self-destructed.

Sunderland took a 1-0 lead into the half-time break but then sabotaged themselves spectacularly in the second half.

Dan Ballard scored an own goal, something he seems to like to do after netting one against Newcastle United in the FA Cup last season, and then they gave away a penalty which was tucked away by Ryan Hardie.

Lewis Gibson channelled his inner RayGun at full-time

Sunderland did equalise on 86 minutes but couldn't hold the lead and Plymouth bagged a late winner three minutes into stoppage time.

The win saw the Plymouth number 17 celebrate by breakdancing like an Aussie on the halfway line as captured by X account @Voodoov21.

That was Lewis Gibson, the former Everton defender who got his start in the Newcastle academy. The Durham-born Newcastle fan seemed rather pleased with the result.

The win was Plymouth's first of the season

Gibson never actually made a senior appearance for either club but was on the books at Everton for four years where he was loaned out to four different clubs before Plymouth snapped him up last summer.

Whether it was just the relief of bagging their first win of the season, who knows? But surely, there was part of him that was celebrating a victory over Sunderland.

Let's hope that we'll have some breakdancing of our own to do this evening at full time after Newcastle face Wolves.
