Newcastle United winger Yankuba Minteh was in action for Gambia last night in World Cup 2026 Qualifier action against Syechelles.
Minteh's Gambia cruised to a 5-1 win with Minteh grabbing the third goal for his country from an interesting position.
We are used to seeing Minteh playing on the right wing for Feyenoord after the youngster joined the Dutch side on a season-long loan immediately after signing his Newcastle contract, and indeed that's where he started for Gambia yesterday.
However, his goal seemed to come from him playing out on the left. Whether he'd just wandered over there as part of a previous play, or whether he was switched there we're not sure, but if he can play comfortably on either wing that's a huge plus for Eddie Howe.
Or, potentially a huge plus for Liverpool manager Arne Slot with The Reds now being linked with a £40million move for Minteh this summer.
Slot, of course, was Feyenoord head coach last season and was directly responsible for Minteh's fantastic development over the course of the last campaign.
There had been talk of him returning to the Dutch side for another loan spell, but now the rumours are that Slot is weighing up a potential transfer bid for Minteh to join him at Liverpool.
A lot of Newcastle fans have rightly been curious to see what Minteh could do for us in the Premier League, and while it hasn't been decided what the future holds for him next season, Eddie Howe is expected to want to see what he can do in pre-season before he makes a decision.
However, should a bid of £40million come in for the player they signed for around £6.5million just a year ago, that would be difficult to turn down regardless of how he looks in pre-season.
Plenty of fans are anxious, however, if Liverpool were to take him off our hands, what if he turns out to be the next Mo Salah for them and we let him slip out of our hands?
We can definitely see some twists and turns coming with this one over the summer.
